This activist knows why Manju Warrier is silent

Actress Manju Warrier had refrained from commenting on the recent controversies that erupted after the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) decided to revoke the suspension of actor Dileep, who is accused in the infamous actress attack case. Meanwhile, activist Salim India, who conducted hunger strikes at Chalakkudy in support of Dileep, claimed that he knew the real reason behind Manju Warrier’s silence on the whole issue while vehemently arguing that she no longer is sore with Dileep, her ex-husband.

“The truth is that Manju has reconciled with Dileep. She doesn’t hold a grudge against him anymore. More than anyone else Manju has realised the truth that the attack on the young actress was nothing but a fake drama staged by the actress herself. There is only one person in Dileep’s family who hasn’t reconciled with Manju yet. That is her daughter Meenakshi. Even (Dileep's current wife) Kavya Madhavan has come to accept her husband’s former wife,” Salim reasoned. He had earlier filed a petition with the Human Rights Commission and also the Prime Minister arguing that Dileep had been falsely accused in the case.

He added that Meenakshi has promised herself not to forgive her mother for attending the awards function in America when Dileep was in jail. “Manju had gone to America to attend last year’s NAFA Awards when Dileep was in jail. Meenakshi had then called Manju and said, ‘Amma please don’t go to America to sing and dance when achan (father) is in jail. It is okay if you don’t try for his bail, but you should sit at home and pray for him. He is innocent and has been jailed for a crime he hasn’t committed,” claimed Salim.

Recalling the events immediately after the assault early last year, Salim said: “Manju’s popularity had sky rocketed ever since she decided to support the attacked actress. It was the ‘famous’ conspiracy theory put forward by Manju at the meet conducted by the actors at (Ernakulam's) Durbar Hall Ground, to condemn the attack, which sparked the controversies,” Salim said.

“Manju had made that ‘conspiracy’ speech by casting doubts on Dileep, her former husband and father of her child. The unwavering stand taken by Manju had also led to the birth of WCC (the Women in Cinema Collective). The events that followed it are known even to kids,” he added.

He said that the formation of WCC and the meeting of its women members with chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan to reiterate their support for the attacked actress are significant.
