Prithvi shares moving note on Sukumaran's death anniversary

Late actor Sukumaran (1948-97) was a popular face in Malayalam cinema from the early 70s to the mid 90s. His portrayal of an "angry young man" in many films gave him a huge fan base.

Sukumaran's actor sons Indrajith and Prithviraj shared a Facebook post remembering their father on his 21st death anniversary on Saturday.

A day later, marking the occasion of Father's Day, June 17, Prithviraj took to Facebook to share his thoughts about his father and how his role in his upcoming movie Koode reminded him about his dad. Director Ranjith plays the role of his father in the movie directed by Anjali Menon. He revealed that he never got to know his father as an adult.

“Like every son..I too idolised my father. He was my mentor, friend and hero. I remember wanting to grow up sooner...so that I could sit down for that “man to man” with him every now and then. I remember him as someone who knew everything...EVERYTHING. But just as I was evolving into this little man... I lost him. He left me with so many little and big things that I could never do with him... and worse..he left me with that “I wish I knew” feeling. There on... I mostly discovered the man he was through little snippets and anecdotes I got from people who knew him. From my mom, brother, his friends and colleagues... I discovered a side of my father I never knew. And today... who he is in my mind... is part who I knew through the 13 years of my life...and part who I’ve been told he was.

Givbing a peek into the storyline of 'Koode', the South Indian actor referred to its character Joshua which bore a resemblance to a stage of his life when he had lost his actor father.

"Strangely... Joshua too had to in a way lose his father...though not to death... at the exact same age as I did! And then... years later... Joshua too re-discovers his father... in a broken version of the man he once knew... and little stories that people around him tell him. 'Koode', according to Anjali... is Joshua’s story. But I know for sure..'that it’s as much Joshua’s father’s story.
