Balu Varghese stands out among the new-gen Mollywood heroes with his energetic screen presence and swift dialogue delivery in subtle Ernakulam slang. Having debuted as a child actor, Balu made a mark with Jean Paul Lal's 'Honey Bee' and its sequel. Getting ready for the release of 'Premasoothram', his second movie as a protagonist after 'Chunkz,' Balu Varghese told Onmanorama that his vivid dimples opened his path to Malayalam cinema.
“Actor-director Lal is my uncle. When the crew of 'Chandupottu' laid down criteria to select a child artist to perform Indrajith's childhood, they wanted dimples as a prime feature. It was Lal uncle who suggested me. Though my complexion did not match with the character, my dimples took me to the silver-screen,” he said.
Balu Varghese's latest movie 'Premasoothram' is a romantic comedy directed by Jiju Ashokan. The movie revolves around Prakashan's (Balu) unfathomed love for Ammukkutty (Lijomol) and how he conquers her heart. Speaking about the movie, Balu said that Prakashan is an immature soul who is totally different from his real personality.
“I had to go back on my maturity level and behave like my younger self to perform this character. Not that I am a highly mature person in my real life but Prakashan is a rural youth of fifteen who is crazy about his love Ammukkutty. I haven't been that crazy for a girl in my life,” he said.
He is also a part of Tovino starrer 'Oru Kuprasiddha Payyan' and Arun George K David's 'Laddoo' which are set to release this year.
