Film shunned by Kerala jury was in the fray for 4 National awards

Viswasapoorvam Mansoor was also in the competition for best movie in Malayalam, finally losing it to Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum.

The movie Viswasapoorvam Mansoor directed by PT Kunjumuhammed, which failed to impress the jury of Kerala State Film Awards, won four nominations in various categories at the National Awards. The fact that the movie was nominated for the National Awards was in itself an honour for the makers.

Legendary singer KJ Yesudas won his eighth National Award for the song ‘Poi Maranjakaalam’. Music director Ramesh Narayan, who composed the song, and Premdas Guruvayoor, who penned the lyrics, were also nominated in the respective categories. Actress Asha Sharath who played a significant role in the movie too was in the race for the Best Actress award. Viswasapoorvam Mansoor was also in the competition for best movie in Malayalam, finally losing it to Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum.

Director PT Kunjumuhammed who was disappointed that his movie was not considered for any award at the recent Kerala State Film Awards said that the nominations proved his movie’s acceptance on a national level. He added that the state jury headed by filmmaker TV Chandran was not ready to include Viswasapoorvam Mansoor in this year’s competition despite Kunjumuhammed’s repeated pleas. The filmmakers said that these nominations were a fitting reply to certain people and that the public has finally recognized the value of the movie.
