Quality of films screened for state awards were not up to the mark: Jury

An award for best visual effect should also be instituted, the jury suggested.

Thiruvananthapuram: Though 110 films were in the fray for state awards, general quality of the films was not up to the mark, said the jury. Most of the creations had not taken the medium seriously, it said.

Taking into consideration the rising number of films submitted for the awards, the jury said that the number of jury members can go up to 12. They should be split into three committees, who should view all the films and the shortlisted ones should be reviewed by all.

It also suggested that the best actor, actress, supporting actor and actress awards should be given only to actors who dub in their own voice. An award for best visual effect should also be instituted. It also proposed that the award for best art director should be renamed as best production designer.

Special mentions can be given to the films that come in the last five list but haven't got any awards. The special jury awards with cash prize should be extended to two from the present one.
