'Kireedam' producer Dinesh Panicker on how he lost a chance to 'wed' Parvathy

Dinesh Panicker was to don the character of the husband of the leading lady in the film, Parvathy.

It was actor-producer Dinesh Panicker who had bankrolled the super hit movie Kireedam directed by Sibi Malayil. The Mohanlal-starrer was scripted by Lohithadas and was released in 1989. Producer Dinesh Panicker, in a candid chat, recalled how he earned an opportunity to act in the film and how it fizzled out.

Panicker was to don the character of the husband of the leading lady in the film, Parvathy. The scene was to be pictured on the song, 'Kanneer poovinte...' where the character would lead his wife (Parvathy) holding her hand after the wedding.

Panicker said that he had been desperately waiting for the shooting of the scene. But his dreams were shattered by stiff resistance from his wife.

Panicker recalled the incident thus: "Before shooting the song sequence of the film Kireedam I told my wife about my character. I had told her that I bagged a chance to act in the film Kireedam. I told her as a joke that I would be playing the role of Parvathy's husband in the film. But anyway, my wife didn't like the joke and she stopped me from acting in that scene."

Thus, a different actor was sought to do that role, Panicker ruminated and added that he never dared to act in films he produced. He said he did not know how to act and that the role was not that important either.
