Actors Jayaram and Parvathy delivered many super hit movies together as a popular onscreen pair in Malayalam cinema. Their onscreen romance spilled outside cinema and grew into a life long relationship. It was on 7th September 1992 that the young hero Jayaram had tied the knot with Parvathy, the ever graceful heroine of Malayalm cinema.
Jayaram met Parvathy in 1988 on the sets of his debut movie Aparan directed by the legendary film maker P. Padmarajan. Eventually, the two actors fell in love and kept it a closely guarded secret, hiding their budding romance even from their closest friends in the industry. But, they couldn’t escape the piercing ‘eyes’ of actor Sreenivasan who finally uncovered the secret relationship between Jayaram and Parvathy, on the sets of Thalayanamanthram, which had both Sreenivasan and Jayaram playing the lead roles.
It was Jayaram himself who revealed this bit of the story. He said, “The shooting of Thalayanamanthram started when the Malayalam movie industry was beginning to wonder if there was something romantic between myself and Parvathy. Director Sathyan Anthikad was doubtful and wanted to confirm the news. Actor Sreenivasan was the person who was entrusted to find out the truth about our relationship. He accepted the task with a promise to discover the ‘truth’ by the evening that day.”
“I arrived on the sets for the shooting and later Aswathy (Parvathy) walked in. While we were sitting there, Sreeniyettan observed us closely for some time. After ten minutes or so he said to Sathyan Anthikad, 'it is true Sathyan, they are indeed in love’.”
Jayaram said that he later asked Sreenivasan as to how how he was able to find out their secret affair. Sreenivasan in his unique witty style replied, “you were talking to everybody on the sets except Parvathy and she too was doing the same. You two didn't even wish each other when you met'.” Jayaram agreed that Sreenivasan’s observations were correct.
Thalayanamanthram was directed by Sathyan Anthikad and had an ensemble cast of Jayaram, Sreenivasan, Urvasi and Parvathy, Innocent, KPAC Lalitha, Mammukoya, among others. The film released in 1990 was a huge success.
