Kochi: Veteran filmmaker I.V. Sasi is credited with bringing many of today's superstars into the world of cinema.
Superstar Mammootty would be the biggest beneficiary of I.V. Sasi and his cauldron of cinemas.
Mammootty first acted as a hero in I.V. Sasi's Thrishna in 1981. Through the 1983-movie, Iniyenkilum, Mohanlal too became an hero alongside Mammootty.
It was I.V. Sasi who gave character roles to a young Mammootty through his iconic movies such as Aavanazhi and Aalkoottathil Thaniye.
"Saddened to hear about IV Sasi's death," Mammootty said. The veteran filmmaker, who was suffering from cancer, breathed his last Tuesday.
The Mammootty-IV Sasi pair was a force to reckon with during the 1980s and delivered many hits together, including Vartha, Athirathram, Adiyozhukkukal and Ee Naadu. Mammootty and Sasi collaborated on more than 35 films.
The 1991-movie Inspector Balram attained cult status and Mammootty soon came to be identified with the lead character. They duo reunited after a gap of 15 years to do a sequel of the movie, Balram vs. Taradas
