Birthday boy Unni Mukundan wins hearts over act of kindness

Unni Mukundan at Poly Garden

Unni Mukundan is one among the young crop of actors who insists on maintaining a low profile. Of late, the philanthropist in him too has come to the fore after his visit to the home for destitute became a hot topic of discussion.

Unni Mukundan's Facebook post on his visit to the orphanage on his birthday was widely shared and commented on the social media.

The flamboyant actor on Saturday wrote on his Facebook page:

It was my birthday yesterday... A heartfelt thanks to all those who prayed for me and sent wishes.

I spent this birthday with my parents at my residence in Ottapalam. I spent some time with the inmates of Poly Garden home near my house. I can never forget the moments I spent with them. It is a rehabilitation center for mentally retarded and grown up males. It was established in Lakkidi in 1981. Its founder is Father Paul Poovathinkal. He expired in 2005.

There are 109 members at Poly Garden aged between 18 and 80. About 90% of them are those who lost parents and those who are from juvenile homes with no one to take care of them. A majority of the members are suffering from various diseases. The present director of the center Siju Vithayathil and as many as 10 volunteers are ever vigilant to protect them and to provide medical aids to them. The main earning of Poly Garden is the donations from kindhearted contributors. Though the center is struggling hard to meet its daily expenses, the volunteers here are always ready to attend to the brothers living here.

Those who prayed for me should pray for them also. I request you all, irrespective of caste or creed, to extend your support to them.

Lovingly,

Unni Mukundan
