Kottayam: Actress Manju Warrier has come forward to lend a helping hand to Ambili Fathima, who is recuperating at a hospital in Chennai following a rare heart and lungs transplant.
Manju has offered the family an amount of Rs 5 lakh required for further treatment apart from bearing the expenses of the 22-year-old girl’s civil service coaching.
Heart and lung transplantation was the only way to save her life after she was diagnosed with a rare medical condition called Primary Pulmonary Hypertension.
The transplant was made possible through crowdfunding. Hundreds of people contributed to the cause when the story first appeared on Onmanorama.
After undergoing two complicated surgeries during a short span of time, Fathima, an M.Com student of CMS College, is now recovering with a new heart and lungs. She secured 85 per cent of marks in the exam which she wrote a day before heading for Chennai to undergo the surgery.
After reading about the trials and tribulations of Fathima on Onmanorama, Manju posted about the courageous girl on Facebook. She also called up Fathima’s mother and told them to hand over the phone to Fathima. When Manju asked Fathima what could she do for her little sister, she told her that all she wanted was to meet her. Now, Manju is getting ready to fly to Chennai.
Fathima also shared with the actress her dream to become an IAS officer. Manju assured her of providing financial assistance to realise her dream apart from an aid of Rs 5 lakh.
