Kalabharathi National Dance Music Fest 2014 begins

The 5-day festival was inaugurated by former Education Minister M A Baby

Thrissur: The second edition of Kalabharathi National Dance Music Fest began here at Sahithya Academy Hall, on Wednesday. The 5-day festival was inaugurated by former Education Minister M A Baby chaired by fest director Prof. George S Paul.

“Human society has a cultural aspect in itself. Those who try to control the society will always try to influence the culture. Kalabharathi is putting a commendable effort by trying to place art and culture in tandem with human society thus highlighting the cultural values. I am happy to inaugurate such an important festival at this cultural capital of the state” said M A Baby while inaugurating the festival.

Mayor of Thrissur, Sri Rajan Pallan, Kalamandalam Kshemavathi and Sri Kareem Abdulla were the chief guests at the function. The function was followed by music concert by playback singer Malavika Anilkumar.

The opening day performance at the 5-day Kalabharathi National Dance Music Fest at Sahithya Academy Hall became heartening with an adorable concert by the upcoming talent and playback singer Malavika Anilkumar, which was well appreciated by the art lovers at city of festivals, Thrissur.

Malavika began the musical eve with a Varnam “Innum en manam ariyathavar” and it was followed by “Thathuamariya tharama” in “Reethigaula” Ragam and “Sree Chakraraja simhasaneswari” in “Ragamalika” ragam, in unique rendition style.

She also rendered “Maamavasadha Varadhe” in “Naattakurinji” ragam, “Kanu kondini sreeramu” in “Bilahari” ragam, “Sree sathya narayanam” in “Ubha panthuvarali” ragam, “Om kara nadanu” in “Sankarabharanam” ragam amid big applause by the audience.
