Thrissur: The International Theatre Festival for Kerala commenced on Sunday here at the G. Sankara Pillai Complex. About 21 plays from the 12 countries will be showcased during the festival.
Thomas Unniyadan was the Chief Guest for the inaugural ceremony. Prominent artistes across the state were also present at the cermony including famous painter Namboothiri, Peruvanam Kuttan Maararar and Kalamandalam Gopi. The event also saw the participation of Kerala's Ccultural minister K.C Joseph was also present at the inaurgural ceremony.
The first performance of the festival was 'Sharira,' a contemporary dance piece which was a tribute ot the late dancer and choreographer Chandralekha. The piece was performed by her troupe.
Began in 2008, the International ITFOK is organized by Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi. The festival will conclude on January 16. For more details on the festival and the schedule click here.
