Kochi: Caught amid case files and in court rooms, lawyers might complain of not finding time to enjoy the beauty of the nature around. But Markos Vellapally, a busy legal practitioner from Kottayam, was not ready to stick to the routine. Hence he took up his camera and chased birds, with a lawyer’s eye for details.

“Avian Perspectives – The Aesthetic of the Everyday”, a photo exhibition going on at David Hall Art Gallery, Fort Kochi sums up the lawyer-lensman’s pursuit of his passion. The expo features photos highlighting the beauty of birds common to South India.

Kingfishers and cranes and a wide variety of other birds found in Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka spread their wings on Vellapally’s canvas. Most of the photos were captured from Kottayam, Mararikkulam, Kumarakom, Coonoor and Bengaluru. Vellapally has chosen the pictures he has taken over the past four years.

Vellapally said sometimes he waits for a longtime to get the perfect click.

Along with the show, David Hall also hosts another photo expo titled “Wild Frames”, featuring the works of Michael Dominic and Dr Joseph Varghese. Dominic, the managing director of CGH Earth, has been active in photography for eight years now. Dr Varghese is an orthodontist who runs a clinic at Kadavanthra. For the past 12 years, he has been nurturing a keen interest in wildlife photography.
