Religion and children are two sensitive subjects that filmmakers rarely stumble upon but when a movie addresses a larger purpose with the themes, it won't go unnoticed. And the short film Divider has it's heart in the right place.
The 27-minute long short film sends out a precise message on communal harmony through both children and parents' perspective.
Directed by Anand Radhakrishnan, the film opens with humorous instances where a Muslim boy undergoes the religious circumcision ritual ‘sunnath kalyanam’. It soon shifts to a different tone and potrays the friendship between shared between school kids inspite of their religius differences.
Anand Radhakrishnan who has acted in movies like Himalayathile Kashmalan and Padayottam, also manages to show that how children could be easily prone to violence. However, the film ends on a happy note and balances the emotions justifying the title metaphorically.
Master Sidhartha, Master Ananthu, Bilas Nair, Margi Sindhu, VK Sreenivas, Shajahan Sukumaran are the major cast in the movie.
While Jayakrishnan S is the director of photography, Ramu R is the editor and the background score is set by P S Jayhari.
The short film Divider, which is produced by Dravida Entertainments has also won accolades for it went to various platforms including South Asian Short Film Festival in Kolkata, Ponnani Short Film Fest, Island International Short Film Festival.
