Drunk Odia man saved after deep plunge to trace purse

Shetrabasi Naik was reportedly in an inebriated state when he jumped into the 30-ft well.

Poothrikka, Ernakulam: An Odisha native based in Kerala didn’t think twice before jumping into the panchayat well here to retrieve his wallet that fell into it amid a scuffle with his friend.

Shetrabasi Naik, alias Krishna, was reportedly in an inebriated state by Sunday noon and as soon as his purse fell into the 30-ft well, the 35-year-old plunged into it, thus giving a scare to the locals at Blayipadi on the Choondi–Ramamangalam road.

The people in the locality alerted the fire force when they found the migrant labourer struggling to get out of the well.

The fire force headed by assistant station officer TK Suresh rushed to spot and pulled up Naik by securing him in a rescue net. The wallet contained the identity cards of Shatrabasi and his friend, besides Rs 1,000.

The wallet reportedly fell into the well following a scuffle between the two friends. Even after Naik was rescued and brought to the banks, their dispute over the ownership of the money continued.
