Adimali: A BJP local leader from Pambady in Kottayam and his teenage daughter, who were reported missing on Sunday, were found dead in the reservoir of Kallarkutty dam in Idukki on Monday.
The bodies of Kuruvikkoottil Vineesh (49), of Chembankuzhy, and Parvathy (17) were recovered after an elaborate search involving Kerala Fire and Rescue Services personnel, police and local people.
Police claimed the deaths were a case of suicide and that family problems were what caused the tragedy.
Vineesh and Parvathy are said to have left their home in Pambady on Sunday morning. They were headed to Kuzhithole, where his wife Divya lives. When they did not reach Kuzhithole after sometime, Divya unsuccessfully tried contacting them over the phone. Subsequently, a missing complaint was filed with Pambady police.
On checking Vineesh's mobile tower location, police found that it was somewhere in the Adimali area and they immediately alerted Vellathooval police station. Early on Monday, Vineesh’s bike was located near Kallarkutty dam, along with his helmet and a bag containing clothes.
A thorough search of the reservoir and surroundings was conducted by the Fire and Rescue Services personnel from Adimali, Vellathooval and Pambady. With the help of police and local people, their bodies were traced.
Apart from wife Divya, Vineesh is survived by his son Vishnu. Vineesh was Meenadom panchayat's BJP committee secretary.
