Kottayam woman held for feeding husband psychotropic drugs was inspired by her mother?

The accused Asha Suresh (36).

Kottayam: An alleged malicious family history has emerged during the investigation into a Kottayam man's complaint that his wife spiked his food and water with psychotropic drugs.

The other day the police had arrested Asha Suresh (36) of Sathimandiram in Palakkad near Meenachil here based on the complaint of her husband Satheesh Shankar.

According to the man, his wife had fed him drugs meant for treating mental illness since 2015. A voice clip, the woman sent to a friend reportedly validates the man's claims.

However, the cops also stumbled upon something else. In her voice messages, the woman had revealed that her mother applied the same treatment to her father.

"He is now a toothless lion. No trouble," she told the friend, about her father, who was reportedly administered harmful medication allegedly by her mother.

Asha's friend, whose help Satheesh had sought, shared the clips with him.

Investigating officer Shaju Jose, DySP, Pala, told Onmanorama that they will be investigating the fresh allegation about the accused's mother.

According to the police, Asha's mother is now abroad with another daughter. Asha has been remanded and the cops have reportedly given her a breather as she has a history of fits.

Teen daughter's role
According to the police, the couple that got married in 2006 has two daughters. The eldest is in the 7th grade while the youngest is a third standard student.

DySP Jose said Asha had sought the help of her elder daughter to mix the drugs in water kept for Suresh's use at his company that handles wholesale distribution of ice creams.

She reportedly deceived her daughter by saying the medicine was meant to cure his violent behaviour. Asha had earlier filed a complaint claiming harassment from Satheesh.

Satheesh's suspicion
Satheesh told the police that he used to suffer fatigue regularly and felt sleepy immediately after taking food.

He claims to have felt normal after he stopped having food from home. It was then that Asha allegedly began spiking his drinking water.

DySP Jose said Satheesh check CCTV footage inside his house and found Asha spiking his food. Then he sought the help of Asha's friend from whom the audio clips were accessed.

According to the police, she used a drug prescribed for Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD).

The police said that Satheesh had the medicine -- that was named by Asha in the clip -- tested at the laboratory of Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology. He was told by doctors that prolonged intake of such medicines could result in mental illness or even death.

It is alleged that Asha had attempted to harm Satheesh to claim rights to his property.
