Kerala Forest Minister AK Saseendran tested positive for coronavirus on Sunday evening.
The minister has been admitted to Kozhikode Medical College and authorities informed that his health condition is normal.
All public programs scheduled to be attended by the minister have been cancelled and anybody who was in contact with Saseendran should stay on alert, the minister's office informed.
The minister was undergoing treatment at an Ayurvedic centre and was planning to get discharged on Monday and go to Delhi on Tuesday.
Health staff from a private hospital went to the Ayurvedic Centre and took the samples from Saseendran to be tested. After COVID-19 was confirmed he was shifted to the medical college.
Kerala continued to record a daily tally of over 45,000 cases for the third day in a row on Sunday taking the total number of affected people in the state to 56,20,151.
On Sunday, 45,449 new positive cases were detected in Kerala.
On Saturday, the state had recorded 45,136 new cases while on Thursday, Kerala had registered 46,387 cases, the highest single-day spike since the outbreak of the pandemic in 2020.
