Kerala recorded 1,083 new COVID-19 cases and 1,021 recoveries on Tuesday.
Of the new cases, 902 contracted the disease through contact, 51 came from abroad and 64 came from other states.
Among the contact cases, sources of infection of 71 is yet to be traced.
Sixteen health workers - five from Thiruvananthapuram, four from Ernakulam, three from Kozhikode, two from Kasaragod and one each from Wayanad and Kannur districts - tested positive on Tuesday.
Thirty-five Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) personnel from Alappuzha district, 11 KSE workers from Thrissur district and 4 INHS employees from Ernakulam too have been tested positive.
The test results of Jayanandan, 53, from Kalliyoor in Thiruvananthapuram district, Rajesh, 45, from Peruvayal in Kozhikode district -- both died on August 1 -- and Gopi, 69, from Kuttamassery in Ernakulam, who died on August 2, have returned positive on Tuesday. With this, the death toll due to the disease rose to 87 in the state.
The state has reported 27,956 COVID-19 cases so far, out of which 16,303 persons recovered. The remaining 11,540 patients are being treated in various hospitals.

Ernakulam reported 135 cases on Tuesday. While seven of them are returnees from abroad and other states, the remaining 128 patients contracted the disease through local transmission.
Western sides of the district continues to be under the virus attack with 30 more people testing positive in Fort Kochi and Mattancherry regions. Two navy officers and two health workers are among the patients.
Of the 131 cases confirmed in Malappuram, 118 are contact cases. Sources of infection has not been traced in 16 cases.
Alappuzha also reported over 100 cases – 126. Of them, 74 are contact cases. Thirty-five officers of the ITBP camp at Nooranad are among those tested positive.
Of the 97 cases in Kozhikode, 70 are contact cases. Sources has not been identified in eight cases.
In Kasaragod, 11 cases without identified sources were reported. Total 91 cases were confirmed in the district. Of them, 87 are contact cases. Most of the cases have been reported from Uduma panchayat (27). Eighteen cases were reported from Kasaragod municipality.
There are currently 1,45,062 people under surveillance across the state. Of them, 1,34,140 are under home or institutional quarantine and 10,922 are in hospitals. In the last 24 hours, 1,241 people were admitted in hospitals.
A total of 8,58,960 samples have so far been sent for testing. An additional 1,22,962 samples were collected as part of Sentinel Surveillane from priority groups. 20,087 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. Of these, test results of 7,595 samples are awaited.
Thirteen new regions have been converted into hotspots while 10 have been excluded from the list. There are currently 509 hotspots in the state.
