The Kerala government has prepared the action plan for the demolition of four flat complexes at Maradu in Ernakulam district, ordered to be demolished by the Supreme Court for violating the Coastal Regulation Zone rules.
A nine-member committee comprising of engineering experts has been constituted for overseeing the demolition drive. The sub-collector will meet the expert committee on Friday.
The sub-collector will also engage in talks with the 15 companies interested in demolishing the four flat complexes. Billed as the biggest demolition drive in the history of state, the demolition process will begin on September 28 and will be completed on February 9, 2020.
Meanwhile, the case against the builders of the Maradu flats has been transferred to the Crime Branch. Crime Branch DySP Josey Cherian will be investigating the case which has been registered in Maradu and Panangad police stations.
The builders have been charged under Sections 406 and 402 of the Indian Penal Code for criminal breach of trust and assembling for purpose of committing dacoity, respectively. If guilty, the accused may be imprisoned for a maximum of seven years under these sections.
The government will submit the 138-day-long demolition plan at the Supreme Court on Friday.
