Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala state cabinet is likely to allot more Plus One (Class 11) batches in Malappuram district to overcome the shortage of seats. These temporary batches would be opened only in government schools, with most of the seats in Humanities stream.

While a few additional batches could be allotted in Kasaragod district also, new batches are unlikely to come in Kozhikode and Palakkad even though the number of merit seats in these districts is inadequate.

Meanwhile, a report was submitted to the government by a two-member committee of officers on the number of batches to be allotted in each taluk in Malappuram district.

Incidentally, 22,729 candidates, including 222 students who passed class 10 with A-plus in all subjects, are yet to receive allotment. However, government officials said that these students were not allotted seats because they submitted applications without including a large number of options.

The second allotment under supplementary round will consider the seats available in the additional temporary batches also, said authorities. However, it is pointed out that because candidates who do not take permanent admission in the lower options allotted to them would have to exit the admission process, allotting new batches after considerable delay would deprive such meritorious students of good opportunities.
