The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) is introducing a new MBA program in Agribusiness Management (MBAABM) to foster agribusiness activities and startups across India.
This program aims to develop business professionals capable of boosting the agricultural sector and the farmer’s economy. It targets a diverse range of participants, including fresh graduates, progressive farmers, agricultural extension workers, intermediaries, traders, agro-industry technicians, and professionals from NGOs, cooperatives, and corporate entities.
The program lasts for 2 years and can be completed in a maximum of 4 years. Candidates with a bachelor’s degree in any discipline are eligible to enrol.
The program covers agribusiness management and policies, project management, commodity trading, production and supply chain management, and procurement and materials management in agribusiness, with a significant project work component. It offers detailed learning on managing agricultural business activities, including horticultural production, post-harvest management, livestock, agri-equipment, renewable energy in agriculture, organic farming, food safety and quality, and agricultural extension. This comprehensive curriculum provides a robust foundation and advanced expertise in various aspects of agribusiness management.
By enhancing profitability and efficiency in the farm sector, promoting income-enhancing activities, and fostering entrepreneurship among rural youth, the MBAABM program aims to significantly impact the agricultural industry. Participants will gain essential managerial skills and expertise in various aspects of agribusiness, preparing them to address national development plans, agricultural policies, and global trade.
