Students’ expo showcases latest trends in architecture

Kochi: From basics of building design to climate-responsive urban planning, a students’ exhibition going on at Durbar Hall Art Gallery here covers all that is trending in the field of architecture.

The fifth edition of Seedscape, the annual exhibition of works done by the students of Seed - APJ Abdul Kalam School of Environmental Design, Muvattupuzha, features nearly 550 works done by more than 120 students of all batches of the institute during the academic year 2023-24.

Renowned architects Lijo Jos, Reny Lijo and Jills Philip inaugurated the show on Saturday. Seedscape Cochin Creative Collective is curating the show.

"The exhibits deal with a variety of topics such as basics of architectural language, the relationship between building and landscape, climate responsive design, materiality and detailing, housing and urbanism. The exhibits include drawings, models, video installations and also publications launched by Seed over the past 5 years," Rajasekharan Menon, academic chair, Seed, said.

Noted graphic designers, filmmakers, social entrepreneurs and environmentalists will participate in Seedtalks scheduled to be held at 5.30 pm on all days of the show at the venue. The experts will interact with the students and visitors at the exhibition. A film screening on architecture and related fields has been scheduled for 5 pm every day.

Ar Shigeru Ban, considered a living legend of architecture and the winner of the Pritzker Prize in 2014, will be visiting the exhibition on June 21. He is expected to have a brief interaction with the students and faculty of Seed. The exhibition will be open from 11 am to 7 pm till June 23.
