Here is a great opportunity for young women interested in aerospace technology to get first-hand experience in this scientific branch. The Kalpana Fellowship Scheme, a one-year program introduced by Skyroot Aerospace, a Hyderabad-based startup, is now open for applications.
With the recent opening of India's space sector to the private industry by the Indian Government, breaking the monopoly held by ISRO (Indian Space Research Organisation), Skyroot Aerospace made history by launching India's first privately-built rocket, Vikram-S, in 2022.
Established in 2018 by Pawan Kumar Chandana, a former ISRO space scientist turned entrepreneur, Skyroot Aerospace currently employs over 300 professionals and has garnered investments worth Rs 800 crore.
Who can apply?
Named after the legendary astronaut Kalpana Chawla, the scholarship offers selected candidates the opportunity to pursue a one-year research fellowship at Skyroot's Max-Q campus in Hyderabad.
The program's benefits include mentoring by renowned space scientists, a competitive stipend, and a fellowship certificate. Exceptional performers during the fellowship also stand a chance to be absorbed as regular employees of Skyroot.
Eligibility criteria require applicants to hold a BTech / MTech / PhD within the last two years with no other professional experience, or be final-year students in these courses, accompanied by a no-objection certificate from their colleges.
