Chennai: A sports quota will be included for admission to engineering degree programmes at IIT Madras from the coming academic year. This marks the first time a sports quota is being provided for admission to IITs in the country.
The applicants should have qualified in the JEE-Advanced entrance test. However, their admission will be through Sports Excellence Admission (SEA) instead of the general counselling of the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA). There will be a special portal for this purpose.
Those who have won medals in international and national sports competitions during the past four years can apply. One of the two seats is reserved for women.
