Applications have been invited for admissions to the 51st batch of Plus Two (Class 12) Technical Entry Scheme (TES) in the Armed Forces. The main attractions of TES are that students can learn engineering with all expenses met by the military and subsequently gain a commission in the Indian Army.
TES is considered to offer better prospects to students than other technical entry schemes such as university entry scheme and technical graduate courses. In schemes other than TES, candidates can join the Armed Forces only after graduation.
Youngsters dreaming of a career in the Armed Forces after Class 12 can seek admissions to NDA (National Defence Academy) or TES. While students graduating from NDA earn a BSc degree, those clearing TES gain a professional BTech degree.
Students at TES receive an attractive stipend and on graduation can join the Army in the lieutenant rank after four-year training. Subsequently, they can be promoted to ranks such as captain, major, lieutenant colonel and colonel.
TES has much relevance in the current age as warfare in future will be based on technology. According to career experts, professionals in the technological field will have huge opportunities in the coming years.
Moreover, technology is indispensable for modern armed forces. Professionals in this sector work as signal engineers, combat engineers and engineers in the Border Roads Organisation. These personnel engage in duties such as signaling, tracking of movements by units and maintenance of equipment.
