Edappally: Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham Kochi campus celebrated the 18th anniversary of its annual programme 'Camera Speaks' on Wednesday. The event will conclude on Friday.
The Department of Visual Media and Communication of the college organises 'Camera Speaks', a three-day annual event that showcases a photography exhibition by the students and seminars and workshops by experts. Actor Harisree Ashokan was the chief guest of the event this year.
Cinema is the central theme of the event this year. Two photography exhibitions have been organised based on the topics- Navarasa or emotions and the history of cinema. The best photographs are selected and awarded through viewers' votes.
A reels competition was also conducted on the campus on Wednesday.
As a tribute to Christopher Nolan's recent film 'Oppenhiemer', the students also created an installation of the atomic bomb explosion that happened in Hiroshima.
"We look forward to Camera Speaks every year, as it gives our students a chance to showcase their talents and creativity. They also get to learn more about organising an event and the importance of teamwork," said Krishna Kumar M A, a Visual Media faculty who has been coordinating the event since 2007.
Abhijith N S, an integrated Master of Computer Application (MCA) student, said, "The whole event is interesting. However, the explosion display created by the students blew our minds."
The second day of the event will have a session conducted by Gokulam Venugopal, Chairman and Managing Director of Gokulam Engineers, on the history of photography and an exhibition of the cameras owned by him.
