MG varsity lone Kerala institution allowed to start online courses without prior UGC nod

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has authorised 76 higher-educational institutions in the country to start online programmes without prior approval from the 2023-24 academic year.

The institutions have to abide by the provisions under the UGC Regulations, 2020, and the subsequent amendments, as per the notification dated August 17.

The admission for the programmes starting in July-August can be carried out till September 30. The details of the students should be submitted on the portal within October 15.

The list of the programmes at the 76 institutions is available under the 'Notices' link on the UGC website (www.ugc.gov.in).

In Kerala, only the Mahatma Gandhi (MG) University has been entitled to start online programmes without prior approval.

The 13 online programmes at the MG are: BCom (General), BBA, BCA, MCom (Finance), MA Multimedia/ Animation/Graphics Design/Sociology/Business Economics/English/Journalism & Mass Communication), MCA Statistics and MBA.

Some of the major institutions that do not require prior approval are: JNU, Delhi; JAIN Deemed-to-be University; JSS Academy; Manipal Academy of Higher Education; Bangalore University; University of Mysore; Visvesvaraya Technological UNiversity (Karnataka); Anna University; Bharathidasan University; Madurai Kamaraj University; Sastra Thanjavur; SRM Institute; University of Madras; Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham ; Vellore Institute of Technology (Tamil Nadu); Aligarh Muslim University (UP); Dr D Y Patil Vidyapeeth; and Symbiosis International (Maharashtra).
