Ahmedabad: The Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIMA) has announced 30 new scholarships for the upcoming 2023-25 batch with the contribution and support of its alumni, the country's premier business school said on Wednesday.
A total of 10 scholarships of Rs 10 lakh each and 20 of Rs 5 lakh each will be awarded to students in the first and second year, the institute said in a statement.
Carrying forward the mission of supporting meritorious and deserving students, the IIMA has announced 30 new scholarships for the incoming class of 2023-25, it said. "The scholarships have been contributed by the alumni through the IIMA Endowment Fund," the statement said.
The fund was set up by a group of IIMA alumni in 2020, it said.
"The scholarships were made possible through the contributions and support of several IIMA alumni who are closely engaged with the institute in advancing its aim of ensuring that meritorious students have access to IIMA's world-class education," the IIMA said.
In addition to these scholarships, the IIMA offers awards to its students for academic and all-round excellence and performance in specific subjects, which are either awarded by the institute, alumni, individual or organisational donors, it said.
The IIMA alumni network comprises more than 40,000 professionals who are closely connected to their alma mater and support the institute in several ways, it said.
The institute recently welcomed on campus students of the 60th class of the Two-Year Full Time Post Graduate Programme (PGP) in Management and the 24th batch of the Two-Year Full Time Post Graduate Programme in Food and Agribusiness Management (PGP FABM).
Together, the class of 2023-2025 comprises 455 students from diverse backgrounds from across the country, the statement said.
IIMA Director Professor Bharat Bhasker welcomed the students and urged them to uphold high standards of ethics and understand the importance of being principled.
"I also want to thank our IIMA alumni who helped establish 30 new scholarships through the IIMA Endowment Fund for deserving and meritorious students. We intend to increase the number of these scholarships in the future to help deserving students to join the institute, he said.
The PGP class of 2023-25 comprises 408 students with 26 per cent freshers and 74 per cent experienced candidates having a range of skills and work experience. Forty two per cent of the batch comprises students from non-engineering disciplines and 58 per cent from engineering. Women students comprise 23 per cent of the PGP Class, the institute said.
The PGP FABM batch has 47 students, with all of them hailing from food and agribusiness backgrounds. This year, the class has 42 per cent women students, compared to 38 per cent in the previous year, it said.
