The first phase of the Graduate-Level Preliminary Examination held by the Kerala Public Service Commission is over. The exam is for recruitment to several posts, including sub-inspector and university assistant. The exam was of a high standard almost on par with examinations held by the Union Public Service Commission or UPSC.
The clues to writing the second- and third-phase exams are in the first-phase question paper.
Questions are available in both English and Malayalam. Those who are not proficient in Malayalam can read the English questions and answer. Many candidates found it difficult to read and understand the Malayalam questions and answer them.
While up to 30 questions could be handled by everyone, the rest of the questions were of above-average standard.
Puzzling part
The questions in the statement form really puzzled the candidates. They lost much time in reading and understanding each question and then answering. Many couldn’t get correct answers even after that.
Candidates who answered the questions in English, Maths, and Malayalam sections in the first phase while deferring the statement questions for the later stage could score good marks. The right tactics for this exam is to attempt general knowledge questions after answering the questions in this section. Only then the time can be utilized properly. Those attempting the next stages should pay special attention to this.
Kerala History
All the questions related to Kerala History are copied from the books 'Kerala History' by A Sridhara Menon and 'Kerala' published by the PSC. These books should be referred to for studying this topic.
An approximate idea regarding cut-off marks can be obtained only after the completion of all three phases of exams. Since the standard of the exam is high, those in the next phases should intensify their practice accordingly. Practise the statement questions as much as possible.
