Masters in Engineering can now apply for PhD research under the DAE Doctoral Fellowship Scheme (DDFS) of the Baba Atomic Research Centre (BARC). The certificate would be issued by the Homi Bhabha National Institute.

Besides BARC, the study or research can be carried out at the Centre for Atomic Research in Kalpakkam, near Chennai; the Institute of Plasma Research in Gandhi Nagar; and the Variable Energy Cyclotron Centre in Kolkata.

A fellowship of Rs 60,000 per month and a grant of Rs 40,000 per year would be awarded to the fellow for four years. The fellow should reside on the campus. Applications can be submitted through the website https:/barcphdexam.com until May 18.

Eligibility

The eligibility criteria specify that the candidate must have an M Tech or ME post-graduation degree in any one of these streams of engineering: Chemical, Computer, Electrical, Electronics, Instrumentation, Mechanical, Metallurgical/Materials or Nuclear Engineering.

The candidate must have also scored at least 60 per cent for the B Tech examination. The date of birth of the candidate should not be before August 1, 1995.

Other Backward Classes and Scheduled Caste/Tribe applicants would have an age relaxation of 3 or 5 years, respectively. The age criteria relaxation for candidates under all categories of disabilities is up to 10 years.

Engineering college teachers, aged up to 40 as on August 1, 2023, who are interested in research without fellowship can also apply for the opportunity.

An entrance examination would be held at various centres across India on June 18, followed by an interview to be held on July 6 based on which the final selection would be made.
