Kerala's sports department will roll out a state-wide fitness assessment campaign for school students today.

The campaign that is being launched in association with the Centre's Khelo India scheme is for students between 12 and 17, said sports minister V Abdurahiman.

As part of the campaign, a fitness assessment bus will be flagged off at the Central Stadium here by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.

Five such buses will tour the state and the sports department said it hopes to benefit 10,000 students from selected schools, especially Fisheries schools, sports schools and schools in scheduled caste/scheduled tribe communities.

Yo-Yo test, plank, squat, medicine ball throw, push-up, sit and reach flexibility test and other tests to measure agility, speed and balance make up the fitness assessment campaign.

Based on the results, students will be recommended for the sports that best suit them, said the minister.
