Thiruvananthapuram: The State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) would examine the errors in the Class-4 textbooks, said Kerala General Education Minister V Sivankutty.
The SCERTC Director would be instructed to study the issue and adopt necessary measure, the Minister stated. The action comes on the basis of a report on the errors that was published by Malayala Manorama on Tuesday (Jan 31).
Errors spotted
A major error was on the year of birth of legendary Malayalam poet Kumaran Asan. Though he was born in 1873, the year is mentioned as 1871 in the second part of the Class-4 Malayalam textbook of the Kerala State Syllabus.
Jammu and Kashmir is mentioned as a State in the text even though the Centre had divided it into two Union Territories in 2019. The map is also the older version. It is also mentioned in the textbook that the Rs 1,000 note which was demonetized by the Centre in 2016 is still a currency in circulation.
Textbooks that were published in 2013 are being used currently. New textbooks will be prescribed for Class 4 from 2025 as per the plan to revise syllabus.
Efforts to rectify the mistakes before that pose problems since the printing of the textbooks for the next academic year has already begun. If the corrections have to be carried out on an emergency basis, the intervention of the government will be required.
