Kerala has finalised a time frame for introducing new textbooks as part of the revision of the curriculum in state schools.
Minister for General Education, V Sivankutty, said the decision was taken at a joint meeting of the curriculum committee and the core committee on Tuesday. The minister presided over the meeting.
Textbooks with revised curriculum will be introduced for preschool and classes 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9 in the 2024-25 academic year.
For classes 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10, the change will become effective in the 2025-26 academic year, said the minister.
The position papers of focus groups will be finalised by January 31 and the curriculum framework will be published on March 31.
Work on the preparation of the textbooks will begin by April, the minister added. The first phase of textbook authoring is expected to be completed by October 31.
The curriculum will change for students in pre-primary till higher secondary. Sivankutty said the revision was done with the participation of the public and by listening to suggestions even from students.
The education department had prepared 26 focus groups for the consideration of the public, the minister said. Those who could not attend the PTA meetings at schools were provided tech platforms to register their suggestions, Sivankutty said.
