The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras is offering a four-year Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Data Science and Applications. This is an online programme. Those who have cleared Class 12 examination can apply for the programme.

Those who have cleared Class 11, irrespective of their group, can also apply. But they would be able to enrol for the programme only after clearing Class 12.

The entrance test will be held on February 26. It will be held at various centres including in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Kozhikode, Bengaluru, Chennai, Mumbai, Delhi, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Dubai, Sharjah and Singapore. There is no age limit.

Qualifier exam
After completing the four-week courses and assignments and securing the required score, candidates have to write the qualifier exam which will be based on these courses. Those who get the minimum required score in the qualifier exam can register for the Foundation level. The qualifier course will begin on January 20, 2023.

How to apply
The online applications can be submitted till January 15, 2023. The application fee is Rs 3,000. It is Rs 1,500 for Scheduled Caste/Tribe categories and persons with disabilities. For applicants in the SC/ST category with 40% disability the fee is Rs 750.

Programme structure: Four levels
• Foundation (32 credits, 8 course)
• Diploma (27 credits in programming and data science, 6 courses, 2 projects each)
• BSc degree (28 credits)
• BS degree (28 credits)

Total credits for BSc degree is 114 credits and for BS degree 142 credits.

Depending on the student’s pace, the course can be completed within 3 to 6 years. Students have the option to exit at the foundation, diploma, or BSc levels. They can exit with a foundation certificate, or diploma in programming or diploma in data science, or BSc degree in Programming and Data Science, or BS degree in Data Science and Applications.

Eligible candidates will get a fee concession.
