New Delhi: The standards of learning have plummeted not only among school students but also some among professional counterparts.
A survey conducted by the All-India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) found out that first-year engineering students exhibit poor skills in Mathematics.
Around 1.29 lakh students from 2003 institutes in the country took part in the survey. Among them 3,431 are from Kerala.
The first-year students who took part in the survey could only get an average score of 40%. Students of Civil Engineering scored 37.48%, Computer Science students scored 40.12% and Electronics and Communication students 38.9%.
The extend of knowledge in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry of first-year students and the standard of engineering studies of second, third and fourth-year students too were evaluated.
Interestingly, first-year students have better knowledge in Physics and Chemistry. Electrical Engineering students scored 52.5% and Computer Science scored 51% in these subjects. Meanwhile, it is 50% for Mechanical Engineering and 48.5% for Civil Engineering students.
The second-year students fared better in quality of academics.
