New Delhi: A bid to extend the window of engineering admission nationwide is on with the All- India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) approaching the Supreme Court in this regard. This was confirmed by its Chairman Anil Sahadrabudhe.
He told Manorama that the council cannot take a decision, on its own, in this matter without the permission of the Supreme Court.
Meanwhile, the Kerala government too had appealed the apex court to extend the deadline by at least a month to complete the admission process to engineering courses. The current deadline to complete the admission is on 25 October.
Many candidates who are included in the Kerala engineering rank list might give up their allotted seats in the state to secure admissions at IITs and NITs. The state government has pointed it out it is a serious issue whereby many deserving candidates cannot stake claim for vacant seats if the schedule is not reworked.
Many students who had secured admissions in the national institutes, including the IITs, are likely to take a call on their choices with the closure of the second allotment. Seats would then become vacant in many government engineering colleges. These seats should ideally go to the candidates who comes next in the rank list. However, deserving candidates may lose these seats if the admission process is closed now.
Only with a new later date to close the admission process another allotment is possible against seats that could fall vacant before 25 October.
