Thiruvananthapuram: Tech major IBM is set to expand its footprint to Kochi with the setting up of a development centre.

The Armonk, New York-headquartered IT giant has started the recruitment process for the new centre, and has invited applications from software engineers, front-end developers, database managers, cloud database engineers and information developers, and others.

Those interested may apply via LinkedIn and IBM website. The firm, with a presence in more than 170 countries, has not revealed where it would base its Kochi office. Considering the current COVID-19 situation, it may initially offer a work-from-home facility.

There have been reports over the past 1.5 years that IBM will open an office in Kerala. The firm had even considered an office in Thiruvananthapuram.

The firm had thrown open a #CallforCode challenge after the savage floods of 2018. IBM’s Call for Code initiative provided an opportunity to build and contribute to sustainable, open-source technology projects to address social and humanitarian issues, including climate change.
