Kozhikode: “I have always desired to be a doctor,” says S Ayesha who came first in the state in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET).
Ayesha secured the 12th rank at the national level and second rank in the OBC category in the NEET entrance examination.
The daughter of AP Abdul Razak, an expatriate, and Shamina from Koyilandy, in Kozhikode, Ayesha secured 98% marks in Plus Two that she completed last year from the Koyilandy Government Vocational Higher Secondary Schools (VHSS) last year.
She was ranked 15,000 in NEET last year. After that, she joined for training classes at the Rays Entrance Coaching Center in Kozhikode.
Ayesha's brother S Ashfaq is a BTech student at TKM College in Kollam and her sister Alia is a Plus One student. “I want to study at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS),” she said
In the top 50
Three other students from Kerala, besides Ayesha, are in the top 50 in NEET ranks.
The 22nd rank was secured by A Lulu, a native of Adiparanda, Nemmara, in Palakkad. She is the daughter of Abdul Qadir KAK Manzil and Meharunnisa. Lulu scored 706 marks.
Sanish Ahammed obtained the 25th rank. He is the son of Advocate Ahameed Koya and Suneera of Sani Misna House, at Pipeline Road, Vellimadukunnu, in Kozhikode.
Philimon Kuriakose got the 50th rank. He is the son of Kuriakose Thomas and Ambili Mathai, of Kuzhiparambil, in Kattode, Thiruvalla.
Kerala has fourth-highest rank holders in NEET
This year, 7,71,500 candidates out of the 13,66,945 who appeared for the NEET examination have secured a place on the rank list.
In the general category, 6,82,406 students have secured a rank by scoring 50 percentile marks or more. Kerala ranks fourth among states in the number of students who got a rank. It was third last year. Uttar Pradesh (88,889), Maharashtra (79,974) and Rajasthan (65,758) topped the list.
In 2018, Kerala was in the second position behind Uttar Pradesh.
Kerala has the fifth-highest pass percentage of 63.94%, behind Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan and Punjab.
Those who scored 147 marks or more were in the 50 percentile and above and were included in the list for the general category.
The list includes those with up to 129 marks in the general disability category (45 percentile) and those with up to 113 marks (40 percentile) in the OBC, SC, ST and disabled (OBC/SC/ST) category.
