Kozhikode: They live in a world of silence, but these youngsters register loud achievements every year. They are students of Karuna Speech and Hearing School, Eranhipalam in Kozhikode who have scored 100 % pass in the higher secondary exams this time too.
Of the 179 higher secondary schools in Kozhikode, only 5 have recorded total success. Karuna School, which offers education exclusively to hearing impaired students, is one among them. In fact, this is the fourth consecutive time that the school is earning this honour. In the recent exams, all the 18 students of the Computer Science section became eligible for higher studies. Two among them secured A + grade in all subjects.
Karuna School for Hearing Impaired started functioning in 1980 under the leadership of the nuns belonging to the Kozhikode diocese. The first SSLC batch at the school passed out in 1990 and every batch has recorded 100 % success since then. The higher secondary batch started in 2014 has replicated the result.
The teachers at the school have received special training to guide hearing impaired students. “We identify the strengths and weaknesses of each student and give him or her special coaching. That is the secret of our success,” says Sister Victoria, the Principal of the school.
