Nazala Moidu, a first-year postgraduate student at Maharaja’s College, has bagged third prize in both poetry writing and essay writing in English in the recently concluded Mahatma Gandhi University Youth festival named 'Alathalam 2019.'
Nazala, a 32-year-old mother, is proving that nothing can be a barrier if you have the will and passion. Nazala, a native of Malappuram, had completed her graduation in Biotechnology from EMEA College of Arts and Science, Kondotty, in 2007. At the age of 19, during her graduation, she was married off to Naishab, who is serving as a scientist at the Defence Research and Development Organisation.
But Nazala did not want to settle down as a mere homemaker. She was not ready to let her age or her responsibilities as a mother hinder her ambitions. After giving birth to her second child she joined Ansar Women’s College at Perumpilavu, Thrissur, and acquired a BA degree in English in 2015. Her quest for knowledge did not stop there. In 2018 she joined Maharaja’s College, Ernakulam, to pursue her Master's in English.
Maharaja’s College has now given her wings to fly. Nazala who loves to write has proved her mettle by winning prizes for both the events she represented the college in at the recent varsity youth fest in Kottayam. She considers these prizes as recognition of her passion and believes the acceptance she has received in the form of these prizes will serve as a great motivation for her to write in the long run.
This became possible only because of the support of her family, she said.
Nazala' husband is her greatest pillar of support. She is greatly indebted to Soya V N and Reena Nair, the faculty of the Department of English, for moulding her skills.
Nazala, who is the daughter of P C Moidu who has retired from a company abroad, and Yahsan Moidu, a homemaker, considers it a great privilege that she was able to represent the great family of Maharaja’s.
The only sister of Siraj and Shalikh, Nazala is the next promise of Maharaja’s that has created milestones in the course of cultural history of Kerala. Her Kids Naba and Nyla provide Nazala, Nazala, who now resides at Kakkanad, all the enthusiasm and energy to pursue her dreams.
