Kariavattom: A three-day national seminar on 'Water Resource Management and Sustainable Development' commenced here at the University of Kerala. It is being organised by the Department of Economics. The meet aims to gather inputs from water conservationists, grass-root level activists, students, academicians and policy makers.
Water bodies are dynamic ecological and social system touching all segments of society and economy. Balancing the ecological, economic and social aspects of water resources is a great challenge in the context of development. The use and throw culture, a by-product of globalisation, has caused irreversible damage to water bodies, stated a department release on the importance of the seminar.
Dr. Anitha V, associate professor and organising secretary of the meet, will present the theme of the seminar. Its sub-themes are: Water and society, Water and economy, Sustainable Development Goals and Water Resources, Integrated Water Resource Management and Sustainable Practice.
The seminar was inaugurated by Dr. Ajayakumar, Pro Vice-Chancellor of the University of Kerala. Dr.Abdul Salim A, the chief of the Economics department, presided over the function.
The university syndicate members Adv.K.H.Babujan, Dr.S.Nazeeb, and Shiju Khan will give the felicitations. M Phil scholar Reshma Rajeevan will deliver the vote of thanks.
The seminar will conclude on February 8.
The venue is the Seminar Hall at the Kariavattom Campus.
