Karyavattom: The campus theatre of University of Kerala organised a play on the life of slain student union leader Abhimanyu. The play titled 'Asthamayangalil thazhnnu pokatha sooryan' depicts the family background and politics of Abhimanyu which led to his death on a college campus in Kerala.
A welcome function was held before the commencement of the play written and directed by Satheesh G Nair. The cast included 18 students from various departments.
More than 100 students viewed the play held near the campus library on Monday evening.
"It was very touching and inspiring to know about the life of Abhimanyu," said Amrutha C V, a student of department of communications and journalism.
"If the play presented by the theatre club makes you satisfied, the full credits goes to the actors in the play and if it is boring to you I will be the only one responsible," said the playwright. "I feel very happy to perform the play on this campus as I have many ties here," Satheesh added.
V S Bindhu, the state committee member of PuKaSa (the Association for Art and Letters), said this play should presented at Vattavada village, which is the native place of Abhimanyu, who was stabbed to death a few months ago. She also pointed out the importance of holding such street plays on campuses.
Dr Raja Warrier, HoD at centre for performing and visual arts, Athul, chairman of Kerala University departments union, and Jibin Francis, unit committee member, participated in the programme held before the staging of the play.
