Will Suzuki be able to reclaim its old name and fame? According to signals from the market, Suzuki is well on track to regain its glory - through Gixxer. Now, using its trump card engine from Gixxer, Suzuki has launched a cruiser model - Intruder 150. It has rival Bajaj's Avenger line-up clearly on its radar. The ex-showroom price of the model is around Rs 1.05 lakh.
Big on looks
Intruder 150 looks a lot similar to its big brother, Intruder 1800. However, it cleverly masks its 150 cc bike looks - the chrome lined headlamp, big panels that cover the petrol tank and low-positioned twin silencers give it a big bike appearance. Its low seat, wide handle and forward-set foot pegs provide Intruder the credentials of a cruiser. It also gets the full digital console from Gixxer. Quality materials give it an overall premium look and feel. Besides, build quality is also superior.
Engine
The proven engine that does duty on Gixxer - the 154.99 cc air-cooled mill - powers Intruder too. It makes 14.8 bhp of maximum power at 8,000 rpm and 14 Nm of peak torque at 6,000 rpm. The hallmark of the engine is its refinement and performance. Besides, it also gives decent mileage despite it being 8 kg heavier than Gixxer. A big air box, a modern exhaust system and a large sprocket negate the negative effects of higher weight.
Ride comfort
Intruder features low, wide rider seat, which easily accommodates riders with lower height too. The single-bar handle is akin to the larger Intruder and aids long rides. It also helps in negotiating city traffic. The subframe on Intruder 150 is new, and, while compared to Gixxer, Intruder has a 75 mm longer wheelbase. Intruder also handles well and offers superior ride comfort. Safety features are rich with disc brakes on the front and back and single-channel ABS.
Tester's note
A good cruiser bike that offers great ride comfort both on city and highway roads. Strong performance and premium feel are features that stand out.
